Background:
THE EARLY YEARS:

Jayve was born on Corellia in 33 BBY, the middle child of the noble house of Arcwell. He was a precocious child, and despite a penchant for disobedience, he was just as apt to return home from school with high academic marks as he was with reprimands. This put a strain on his relationship with his parents, and he would often find himself at odds with them, especially when they would compare him to his older brother, Kacen. This relationship grew more tense as the years went on, and Jayve found himself turning to a life of petty crime as an outlet for his aggression. He became involved in a number of illegal activities, and through these he discovered his uncanny knack for piloting.

When he was sixteen, Kacen enlisted in the Imperial Navy. Jayve, meanwhile, was left with an ultimatum from his father: shape up, or be disowned. After a heated argument, Jayve chose the latter, and rode his swoop bike to the nearest space port. There, he stowed away aboard a freighter headed to the Hutt-controlled moon of Nar Shaddaa.

The first few weeks on Nar Shaddaa were difficult for Jayve. He squatted in abandoned buildings, stole food, and got into a number of altercations with local street scum (and earned a few scars as a result). But despite it all, Jayve was resilient. He eventually got work with a local junk shop, where he met a young Twi’lek named Deel. Although the two of them were often antagonistic of one another, they formed a bond while working under their boss, Jarta Kresh.

After a few months of working together, Deel and Jayve figured out a plan to move certain parts on the side, off Jarta’s official books. The two formed relationships with spacers, swoop racers, and anyone else who needed specialty items without having to go through official channels. But word of their side business eventually fell to the wrong people, and Jayve, Deel, and Jarta were all captured by the local crime lord, Sandash Ruul.

Jayve and Deel were beaten. Jarta, being mistaken for the ringleader behind the parts business, was tortured and killed with a welding torch, having no idea what his interrogators were talking about. The situation was looking grim for the young scoundrels, but the crime lord opted to spare their lives in exchange for a job: fly a ship carrying stolen goods through hostile space. Deel remained behind as collateral, while Jayve flew an old freighter filled with death sticks to a moon on the edge of the outer rim.

The job went off without a hitch, and Jayve returned to Nar Shaddaa with the payment for the death sticks. Ruul, impressed by the young men, released Deel and offered him Jarta’s old shop in exchange for 70% of the profits. Jayve, on the other hand, was given employment.

A SCOUNDREL’S LIFE

Over the next four years, Jayve carved out a name for himself as the best pilot in Ruul’s organization. Not only was he a fantastic smuggler, but his skills as a pilot also brought him work as a getaway driver, and fortune in swoop races.
